Homeschooling Highschool

So far...from everything I've read...all I've discovered is that "this is do-able" and preferable and adventageous, etc. I've been spending hours researching curriculae, books, distance schools, links..... and I haven't gotten any farther than ....'yes, we're going to homeschool for highschool.' I'm guessing all the research will all gel into a cohesive whole at some point...but right now nothing's gelling and I'm still researching. I know we've got another year, but I'm basing 8th grade on decisions for highschool - I just don't have anything decided, yet.

Once I figure anything out, I'll let you know...I'm flying blind, here.

  1. I was happy to discover your My Home School 101 blog today. I was unable to find a profile or contact link in your blog. I hope it's OK that I'm contacting you through a public comment. I've developed an educational program for Windows called SpellQuizzer that helps children learn their spelling words without the battle that parents often have getting them to sit down and write them out while the parents dictate to them. The parent enters the child's spelling words into the software making a sound recording of each word. Then the software helps the child practice his or her words. It really helped my children with their weekly spelling lists.

I would appreciate your reviewing SpellQuizzer in My Home School 101. You can learn more about the program at http://www.SpellQuizzer.com. There's a video demo you can watch at http://www.spellquizzer.com/SpellQuizzer-Demo.htm. I'd be happy to send you a complimentary license for the software. Please let me know if you are interested.

    Thank you very much!

I read with interest your dilemma on whether to homeschool your children in high school, and I applaud you decision to go ahead with it. Here is something that may help you with high school.

I have been involved in education at both high school and college level for over 30 years, and when my own daughters decided to homeschool their children, became involved in homeschooling also. During that time I noticed that there was very little available about study skills, specifically for the homeschooler. As a result, I wrote a study skills handbook for them, which has now been published and is available at http://www.strategicbookpublishing.com/TheLearningBook.html, or from Amazon.com. It seems to have helped them with their study habits.

I toss this out just FYI. I wish you well with your high school endeavors and may God bless your effort.
